Colourfide play elsewhere Tomorrow Night.

FACEBOOK EVENT

Information courtesy of elsewhere

Colourfide’s blend of creamy harmonies and bright catchy choruses over a funky bed of fat flavoured drums and badass basslines has begun to create a stir right around the country, performing for the first time at elsewhere in their last GC show for a while.

Rapidly gaining attention from the industry has provided the band with opportunities to showcase their upbeat blend of reggae, rock, funk and world music throughout Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. Recent highlights include a sold out EP Launch at Hard Rock Café, Surfers Paradise, being selected to showcase at iNtune Northern Territory Music Conference as well as headline opening night of Alice Springs Desert Festival and co-headline of Tennant Creek Desert Harmony Festival.

Spurred by a sense of adventure and a commitment to fulfilling their potential as a musical outfit; in May 2010 the band relocated from the Gold Coast, QLD to Tennant Creek, NT, for a period of six months. Living as one in one of the most remote communities in Australia the band found the space, time and inspiration to concoct a potent broth of explosive music now ready to be unleashed upon the general public in coming months.

An unquenchable thirst for the road promises to see the band touring extensively over coming months and building a nationwide audience from the ground up, one town at a time.

Let There Be Rock. GoMA Cinémathèque

All info courtesy of The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. The following is a media release

‘In addition to the films themselves, the Friday night screenings will be complemented by local musicians responding to the music represented on screen with very special short live performances, included as part of the ticket price,’ he said.

‘Ben Salter (The Gin Club), Matt Somers (I Heart Hiroshima), Seja Vogel, Tim Steward and Kate Jacobsen (Texas Tea) will provide their own unique takes on Joy Division, The Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, The White Stripes and The Doors.

‘In a special final event on June 3, Quan Yeomans (Regurgitator) will take on the music of Prince prior to a screening of Purple Rain 1984.’

Mr Ellwood said the film program would feature intimate portraits of bands and musicians, showcasing their magnetic stage presence and musical talents, as well as the fans, collaborators and locations that surround them.

‘Wild experiments with rock operas and musicals illustrate the blending of rock music and cinema into a unique film genre. Concert films and live recordings capture bands in full flight and the transformation of stage performances into visceral experiences.

‘Iconic music events caught on film also chronicle rare pieces of music history and their ensuing influence on new generations of music fans.

‘Documentaries on some of the central events in rock mythology – Woodstock 1970, Wattstax 1973 and the Rolling Stones’ Altamont Free Concert depicted in Gimme Shelter 1970 – are featured alongside recent exposés of the pressures of the music industry, such as Metallica: Some Kind of Monster 2004.

‘The role of women in rock is showcased with Patti Smith: Dream of Life 2008, chronicling the artist’s incarnations as poet, painter, writer and musician and Radical Act 1995, a documentary on the feminist punk movement in the United States.

‘Modern rock of all persuasions is included with films on the music of The White Stripes, Animal Collective and Sigur Ros.

Mr Ellwood said Australian artists would be represented by films on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Dirty Three and Brisbane’s own SixFtHick, who will take part in a Q&A session following a screening of SixFtHick:

Notes from the Underground 2010 on Saturday May 21 at 2pm.

A major program exploring all facets of rock music on film will screen at the Gallery of Modern Art’s Australian Cinémathèque from April 29 to June 5, 2011.

Queensland Art Gallery Director Tony Ellwood said tickets are on sale now for ‘Let There Be Rock’, a program of more than 45 documentaries, concert movies and feature films capturing the rebellious spirit of rock music.

‘From Elvis Presley in Jailhouse Rock 1957 and The Beatles in A Hard Day’s Night 1964 to Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White in It Might Get Loud 2009 and Animal Collective’s visual album ODDSAC 2009, ‘Let There Be Rock’ surveys over 50 years of music on the big screen,’ Mr Ellwood said.

‘Additionally, there will be an exclusive free 20 minute preview of the forthcoming major documentary on AC/DC fandom, Beyond the Thunder on Sunday June 5 at 1pm.

‘Also screening are classic musicals Jesus Christ Superstar 1973, The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975 and Hair 1979, as well as seminal rock-mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap 1984.’

The weekly Friday Night Sessions will feature local musicians performing short sets inspired by the music of the screening films, commencing on April 29 with Ben Salter’s interpretation of music by Joy Division prior to a screening of the biopic Control 2007. Check the website for more details.

RUSSIAN KIDD [EP LAUNCH]

Electro, indie, smooth, pop, dirty, rock... are just some of the many ways to describe a new, fresh flavor in town, called Russian Kidd. This 4-piece Gold Coast band brings new meaning to the word versatility, as it boldly creates a hybrid between genres, shocking its enthused audience one show at a time.

The band proves versatility, not only through the use of eclectic beats and refreshingly melodious vocals, but through four talented musicians with four different backgrounds and four different musical influences that blend perfectly into one riveting and addictive sound.

Like the delicious aftertaste of a titillating Caprioska, Russian Kidd leaves the crowd lingering for more of their powerful drums, sharp melodies, catchy electro hooks, thumping bass lines, intricate harmonies and mind-blowing guitar solos. The band, which has been playing together for a year and a half, believes that the music and lyrics of each song tell a story that any individual can relate to.

Their formidable energy on stage demonstrates a certain confidence slightly reminiscent to that of Two Door Cinema Club and Bloc Party. Through their performances on stage one certainly notices a sharpness that is graceful yet shocking. It is also not hard to see that there is an air of certainty in their music and a passion for what they do.

Whether it is the result of a cohesive vision, an acclaimed dynamic balance or a willingness to explore, it is with complete certainty that anyone who attends a Russian Kidd show will end up leaving purely satisfied, with a smile on their face and a beat in their step.

Their self-titled debut EP, set to launch on the 24th of April, 2011 at Elsewhere Night Club, is something that all music-lovers should look forward to. Look out!

SOUNDTRAFFIK

Offering a unique explosion of dance music fused by rock, pop, electro and tech elements. Based on the Gold Coast, Soundtraffik is comprised of Ben (producer, guitar, keyboard), Giv (producer, electric drums) & Jason (Vocals).

Having scored a second remix release on Sharam Jey’s German Label; King Kong Records, Soundtraffik's crossover sound is drawing recognition from labels around the world.

BIXBY CANYON

Bixby Canyon are harsh and grungy. Their frontman probably needs a bigger stage, even with the mic stands moved onto the floor he’s bouncing off his bandmates and running off to do a lightning lap of the half-empty room. Their unassuming bass player looks like Michael Cera, so it’s an impressive surprise when he steps up to the mic and screams like his guts are on fire. - Jody Macgregor - Rave Magazine Feb 2011

http://www.facebook.com/bixbycanyonband

PIRATES ALIVE

Gold Coast surfers Michael, Jarryd and Sam have collaborated to form a splendid trio - by the name of 'pirates alive'. Their surf/garage flavour is influenced by artists from The Doors and Pink Floyd to The Beautiful Girls and Angus Stone, a mix which will leave you rocking and perhaps a bit stunned.. The band would come together to jam over a few beers to reach a whole new level of creativity... and through their surf orientated flavour and their love for raw psychadelic solo's a unique sound was made...

http://www.triplejunearthed.com/piratesalive
http://www.facebook.com/piratesalive

YORKE

YORKE have refined their unique sound, drawing from the best parts of their melting pot of influences. The trio found their sound through the songs of southern rock giant’s Kings Of Leon, pop punk legends Jimmy Eat World and alt-rock gods Muse and Biffy Clyro.

Bringing these vastly different influences together to form a single coherent sound has been no easy task, but the product speaks for itself. Swift dynamic changes, crashing choruses and soaring melodies feed the undercurrent of beautiful and heartfelt lyrics.

Fight For Your Right - Revisited

New York trio the BEASTIE BOYS have a new album coming out May 3rd entitled "Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2". Although there isn't a Part 1 due to sudden announcement back in 2009 that member Adam Yauch (MCA) was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. It is believed that Part 2 is just the new name for Part 1 with a few different tracks, none the less sure to be another interesting pile of music.

What they've also done is released a trailer called "Fight For Your Right - Revisited", a small clip featuring several actors playing the parts the boys played back in 1986 hit classic "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)". The clip features a few "Beastie" groups, one including Seth Rogen, Danny McBride & Elijah Wood, the other including Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly & Jack Black. Stanley Tucci & Susan Sarandon also appear in small unknown roles.

The original 1986 clip "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)"

The latest single "Make Some Noise" is meant to officially drop in a day or two. It can be heard on their official blog, heres a link for it Here
