"Julian Berman is a Los Angeles photographer who – before you cry trend-rider – has been shooting the members of Odd Future since back in 2009 (aka probably before you knew they existed). What we like about Berman's images are their easy, candid nature; nothing seems too formulaic or constructed. Just some kids in bright clothes, doing their thing. Sometimes the simplest things are the most effective. Did we mention he's 19-years-old?"
BEST DAY EVER is the new mixtape offering from 19 year old rapper MAC MILLER. Was released well over a month ago yet still worth blogging the shit out of. A good mix of sweet laidback hip-hop vibes from this dude. He has also released his first EP called "On & On & Beyond" which you can buy at iTunes. Support the upcoming good dudes.
A lot of hype and interest has sprung around the interweb about this collective of hip hop artists, who call themselves ODD FUTURE WOLF GANG KILL THEM ALL, also known as simply ODD FUTURE or the acronym OFWGKTA. This hip hop collective features a range of dudes brought up on skating and broken homes, ranging from age 16 to 23.
Led by rapper/producer TYLER THE CREATOR, who released his first solo album called "BASTARD" in 2009, and is about to release his second offering "GOBLIN" next month. Other members includ HODGY BEATS, EARL SWEATSHIRT, DOMO GENESIS, MIKE G & FRANK OCEAN, with also producers LEFT BRAIN, SYD THE KYD and the SUPER 3.
There are also groups inside the group, MELLOWHYPE is a group consisting of LEFT BRAIN & HODGY BEATS, THE JET AGE OF TOMORROW consists of producers MATT MARTIANS and HAL WILLIAMS and EARLWOLF consists of TYLER, THE CREATOR and EARL SWEATSHIRT.
They've released four mixtapes and eight studio albums, all free from their website. The group tapes are called "The Odd Future Tape" and "Radical".
What has made these dudes involved in a lot of hype is the lyrical content in their songs. A lot of songs talk about drug use, raping women, killing people, putting them under the genre HORRORCORE, yet the group has dismissed that genre that represents them. Personally its not like it hasn't been done, Eminem used to rap about killing people, same as a few other gangster rappers like Ice-T & 2PAC, NECRO raps about similar shit too.
Anyway got some clips below of the group, certainly worth keeping an eye on. They're playing Vivid Live in Sydney later in the year. GOLF WANG!

New York trio the BEASTIE BOYS have a new album coming out May 3rd entitled "Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2". Although there isn't a Part 1 due to sudden announcement back in 2009 that member Adam Yauch (MCA) was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. It is believed that Part 2 is just the new name for Part 1 with a few different tracks, none the less sure to be another interesting pile of music.
What they've also done is released a trailer called "Fight For Your Right - Revisited", a small clip featuring several actors playing the parts the boys played back in 1986 hit classic "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)". The clip features a few "Beastie" groups, one including Seth Rogen, Danny McBride & Elijah Wood, the other including Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly & Jack Black. Stanley Tucci & Susan Sarandon also appear in small unknown roles.

Nathaniel Hale, better known as NATE DOGG, passed away on March 15th due to congestive heart failure. He was 41. The rapper had suffered multiple strokes the past couple of years, first one in 2007, and a second in 2008.
The rapper was best known for his collaboration work with many artists including Dr Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Warren G and many more.
He was nominated for 4 Grammy awards for his work with Warren G on the song "Regulate" in 1995, Dr Dre's "The Next Episode" in 2001, Ludacris' "Area Codes" in 2002, and finally Eminem's track "Shake That" in 2007.
Plenty of artists are paying tribute to the man who "liked good pussy and liked good tree". Here's a few clips below, RIP.
Discovered a new hip hopper last night, from watching the Ryan Phillippe interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, this guy is simply known as WAX. He's from California and a few days ago released his debut mixtape called "Scrublife", hosted by DJ Skee and Dale Firebird.
Big Wax is now signed to the major hip hop label Def Jam. He describes his music as a mix of "Johnny Cash & Jay-Z", while Ryan Phillippe describes it as a mix of "Eminem & Sublime".
I'll quote a part of his bio from his website which I'll put below, but definitely download the free copy of SCRUBLIFE now. I'll post a few tracks also.
"As Wax continues his journey to fame, with a fan base constantly swelling (he’s already had fans show up on his doorstep), he maintains his Scrublife mantra while reinventing the wheel of Hip‐Hop. “Picture a rapper with a gold chain and a car…I’m the exact opposite of that,” he says. “Beer bottles all over the place, and a smile on your face.”
I NEED A DOCTOR is the second single from DR DRE set up to be on his upcoming final album entitled DETOX, set for release sometime this year. The song features long time colleague and friend EMINEM and also SKYLAR GREY. The song is produced by ALEX DA KID, who is best known for co-writing the song "Love The Way You Lie". The song contains Eminem rapping two verses about his mentor, thanking Dre for believing in him in his early days and returning the favor, before Dre delivers the song's final verse.
The music video is below and was released February 24th. Certainly set to be another classic from one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time.
I call this post Napster days basically because I've been thinking about some of the first bits of music I first listened to way back in the span of 1999-2000. It was a time when Napster and free music file sharing was first invented and being dominantly used around the world. My brother was a user, and this is some of the stuff he was listening to, and I was hooked. My beginnings for love of music.
Groovin' The Moo is a festival that'll run during the end of April and start of May this year. It doesn't play in any major cities although the line-up looks solid, check the poster above for all the details on it or head to http://www.gtm.net.au for more info. Tickets on sale now.
Can A Drummer Get Some? is the third single off Travis Barker's upcoming debut solo (not really solo, more of a collaboration frenzy) album GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME. The song features Swizz Beatz, Lil Wayne, Game and Rick Ross. Check it below. The album is due for release in March.
Found this gem last night scoping the tube. This is a parody of Waka Flocka Flame's song "HARD IN DA PAINT". Not going to post that cause its a piece of shit, although this parody is hilarious. BARACKA FLOCKA FLAME. HEAD OF THE MOTHERFUCKING STATE NIGGER.
Coachella is a music & arts festival held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley. This year's line-up sees a few aussie bands score a spot on the three-day festival shenangians, including Cut Copy, Tame Impala, The Presets, Angus & Julia Stone, Empire Of The Sun, with also plenty of headlining big name acts wrecking the stage.
Coachella takes place this year from April 15th till April 17th. Head to http://www.coachella.com for more info.
To continue with the hip hop phase of my life. Here's another MC. Robert Novak aka NOVI NOVAK. Got some good rhymes and flows. This guy is from Chicago, Illinois. Check out some clips and you also download his songs for free at: http://www.reverbnation.com/novinovak
Been scoping out fresh MC's lately. Here is another I discovered last night. Malcolm McCormick, better known as MAC MILLER, is a Pittsburgh rapper who I quite like, got good flow with plenty mention of marijuana use in his songs. His first mixtape is called K.I.D.S. (Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit), here's a few songs off it below.
